What is it like to be a fashion model?

Aspiring to be a fashion model?

Many girls aspire to be a fashion model when they grow up. Many grown-up girls wish that they were fashion models. Why? The life of a fashion model appears to be glamorous. Think about it! Wouldn’t it be great to get dressed up in the latest fashion, to have your picture taken by some of the top studios including Prodoto Photography Studios and then to see them on the cover of the most popular fashion magazines?

For most models, finally seeing their pictures on the cover of the top fashion magazines is a dream come true. Many of them aspire to be models ever since they were little girls and have worked very hard and have made many sacrifices to be on the cover of the top fashion magazines and to be able to take part in fashion week. But once they are there, life becomes a dream. They get to travel the world and experience fame and fortune. However, the life of a fashion model is not always what it appears to be. It is not always as glamorous. If you were ever to have an interview with a fashion model, he or she would tell you how stressful the life of a fashion model could be. The two most important things that fashion models are constantly struggling with are physical appearance and work schedule.

Why is Physical Appearance so Important?

The physical appearance of a fashion model is of utter importance. Most if not all fashion models are hired because of their physical appearance – because of the way they are perceived by others. As a result, they are constantly struggling to keep up their physical appearance. Many fashion model also accept a wrong interpretation of true beauty and place their self-esteem in the hands of others. If they are constantly getting booked and being chosen for modelling jobs, they assume that it is because they are beautiful. If they are chosen to work with models that are beautiful and popular, they assume that it is because they are beautiful too. If they are pursued by intelligent and successful men or women, they assume because they are beautiful. They let these things determine their beauty so the moment these stop or start reducing, they assume that they are not as beautiful anymore. The sad result is that they start seeking ways in which they can change their physical appearance to get back the beauty they “lost”.

Many fashion models fail to see that true beauty is what is inside and become so obsessed with their “outward appearance”. Many of them also become egotistical and self-centered by the attention that they receive from others. There is nothing wrong with outward appearance; however, becoming obsessed with the physical appearance and letting others determine your opinion of the way you look can have dangerous consequences as you will never be able to please everyone and you will never be able to meet everyone’s expectations.

Why does the Work Schedule become Tiresome?

Most models eventually become workaholics because in the world of fashion nothing is guaranteed. Many fashion models have work today and tomorrow they are out of work or are replaced by another model. The fear of not being wanted for modelling jobs and the fear of losing the life of fame and glamour make many fashion models accept as many modelling jobs as possible. They work as hard and as much as they can to secure their status and position. However, the danger in this is that they eventually become exhausted and sick.

What is wrong with the world of fashion?

There is nothing wrong with the world of modelled fashion as long as you as a fashion model know how to deal with it. It is important that you know what your values are and that you guard the type of person that you become. It is a world of fame, glamor and fortune that you should enjoy but do not let it overcome you. It is also important that you know when enough is enough. Reflect on your life and your accomplishments often and ask yourself some very hard but important questions such as:

Why were people really attracted to you?

Would your friends still love you if you were not a model?

Do they love you because of your money?

What is true beauty?

What are your priorities?

What are you truly living for?

Do you feel fulfilled as a fashion model or is something missing?

Be honest when answering these questions!!
